This tutorial was created using PSP9, but will work in all versions. A working knowledge of PSP is assumed.
Supplies Needed
Tube of choice. I am using the wonderful art of Keith Garvey, which you can purchase at PTE.
PlugIn, Penta.com - jeans
2 Background papers of choice or you can use mine.HERE
Font used is A&S Speedway
Note: This tutorial is written for the tube and materials I used. If you are using something different, you may need to adjust some settings.
Let's Begin
You need to make a template.
In PSP, open a new image size 464 x 212. ( If you prefer a bigger tag, You can always resize later) Flood fill white. Image - Add Borders. Settings: Select Pixels. Color is black. Put check in Symmetric box. Pixel size 2. Click ok.
Repeat Add Borders. Change color to white and pixel size to 4.
Repeat Borders again. Back to black and size 2. Once more Borders. Color is white and size is 10. One last time, Borders - Black - size 2.
...
Use your magic wand tool and click the outer white border. Fill with the bandana paper. Selections - Select None.
Click the smaller white border and fill with this color b8c8de. Go to Effects - Plug Ins - Penta dot.com - Jeans. Settings: Amount = 50. Border width = 3.
Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel. Settings: Bevel #2. Width = 3. Smoothness = 6. Dept = 1. Ambience and Shininess = 0. Selections - Select None.
...
Click on the center white rectangle. Fill with the denim background paper. Selections - Select None.
...
Paste, as a new layer, your main tube. I used the third smallest in the set, aka layer 3 in the tube palette. Mirror. Place to the left side of your tag. I wasn't crazy how the torch and hand looked just sticking out, so I erased them out. You may want to leave them. Add a drop shadow. H & V = 2. Opcaity = 75. Blur = 6. Color is black. Erase the parts of the tube that overlap the outer black border. See my tag. In palette layers, right click your tube and duplicate. On the duplicate change blend mode to soft light.
...
Have this color b8c8de, in your foreground color palette and have the background null. Open your preset shapes tool and select the star. Set the line width to 3. Now draw out a rather large size star. See my tag for example. Layers - Convert to Raster Layer. Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat - Modify - Expand - by 1. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the same color blue you've been using. Selections - Modify - Expand - by 2. Layers - New Raster Layer - Fill with black. Selections - Select None. In palette layer reverse the order of these three layers. The black on the bottom. The expanded blue in the middle and the original blue on top. Click on the top layer and apply the same inner bevel you used for the thin border. Right click and merge down with the middle blue layer. Right click again and merge down with the black layer.
...
With your magic wand tool, click inside the star. Selections - Modify - Expand - by 4. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the same blue you've been using. Paste, as a new layer, your close up tube. I used the second largest tube. Center it so only the face is inside the star. See my tag. Selections - Invert. Delete. Selections - Select None. In palette layers move the star layer above the blue fill and your tube. Add a drop shadow to the star. Same as last used.
...
In palette layers, right click the tube and duplicate. Click on the original and go to Adjust - Blur - Gaussian Blur and set to 4. Change the blend mode to Mutiply. Click on the duplicate tube and change the blend mode to Soft Light. In Palette layers, hide all layers except for the two tubes. Right click one and merge visible. Unhide all layers.
Again in palette layers, right click the star and merge down with the tube. Right click again and merge down with the blue fill. Rotate the star 20 degrees right. Position slightly to the right of the center of your tag. See my tag.
Add proper copyright info, and your name. Merge all layers visible.
Save as a png or jpeg file.
For the name I used the font A&S Speedway
Size 30. Foreground color null. Background is the blue we've been using. Use your cursor to highlight only the first letter, then change the size to 60. Click apply. Edit - Copy - Delete text. Repaste as a new layer. Use the steps you used in making the star. Same color, penta dot, and inner bevel. When you're finished with the name place it in the lower center of your tag. See my tag.
To make the avatar, before adding a name and the copyrights I made a duplicate tag. Deleted my main tube, and merged all layers. Use the rectangle selection tool and trace out the very far left edge of your tag. You want from the outer black border to the inner black border. Top, bottom and sides. Edit - Copy. Selections - Select None. Use the crop tool and trace around your star, starting at the far right black border, Stop when all four sides are even at I think 148. Paste, as a new layer, the piece you had traced out. Place it to the far left of your tag and match the ends even. Merge visible. Re size down to 150 x 150 pixels. Add a simplified copyright and a capital letter from your name.
