Flower Power

This tutorial was created using PSP9, but should work in most versions. A working knowledge of PSP is assumed.

Supplies Needed
1 - 3 tubes from same artist.
I am using the amazing art of Myka Jelina,
which I purchased from her own web site.

: This tutorial was written for the tube and supplies I used. If you are using something different you may need to adjust some settings.


*IPL = In Palette Layers

Let's Begin

Open template in PSP. Duplicate and delete original. IPL, delete the info layer and all shadow layers.

Make a gradiet color. Foreground color is 5fb44c and background color is 9cfe5d. In foreground click gradient tab. Style is Sunburst. Repeats = 2. Horizontal and Vertical = 50.
Click on the double rectangle. Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat. New Raster Layer. Fill with gradient color. Selections - Modify - Expand - by 1. New Raster Layer. Fill with black. Select none. IPL, delete original double rectangle layer. Move the black layer below the gradient. Apply drop shadow to black layer. H & V = 2. Opacity = 75. Blur = 6. Color is black.
Click on the gradient layer. Effects - Texture Effects - Weave. Settings: Gap = 1. Width = 6. Opacity = 1. Gap color is white. Check box for fill gaps.

Click on single rectangle. Increase size up to 105%.  Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat. New Raster Layer. In Foreground color palette click pattern tab. Select the grafitti paper. Fill new layer with grafitti paper. Selections - Modify - Expand - by 1. New Raster Layer. Fill with black. Select none. IPL, delete original single rectangle layer. Move the black layer below the grafitti layer. Apply drop shadow to black layer. H & V = 2. Opacity = 75. Blur = 6. Color is black.

Click on scallop background.  Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat. New Raster Layer. In Foreground color palette click pattern tab. Select the greenery paper. Fill new layer with greenery paper. Selections - Modify - Expand - by 1. New Raster Layer. Fill with black. Select none. IPL, delete original single scallop background layer. Move the black layer below the greenery layer. Apply drop shadow to black layer. H & V = 2. Opacity = 75. Blur = 6. Color is black. Click on Greenery layer. Adjust - Add/Remove Noise - Add Noise - set to 20.

Click on Scallop Layer.  Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat - Modify - Expand - by 1. New Raster Layer. Fill with black. Select none. Move black layer below Scallop layer.  Apply drop shadow to black layer. H & V = 2. Opacity = 75. Blur = 6. Color is black.

Click on a frame fill layer.  Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat. New Raster Layer. In Foreground color palette click pattern tab. Select the blue paper. Set scale to 80. Fill new layer with blue paper. Select None. Repeat for other two fill layers, except  change the scale to 100 for one and 25 for the other.

Click on a frame.  Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat. New Raster Layer. In Foreground color palette click pattern tab. Select the greenery paper. Set scale to 50. Fill new layer with greenery paper. Selections - Modify - Expand - by 1. New Raster Layer. Fill with black. Select none. IPL, delete original frame layer. Move the black layer below the green layer. Apply drop shadow to black layer. H & V = 2. Opacity = 75. Blur = 6. Color is black.  Click on the frame layer. Effects - 3D - Inner Bevel. Settings: Bevel 2. Width = 31. Smoothness = 15. Depth = 1. Ambience and Shine = 0.
Repeat for other two frames.

Paste, as a new layer, one of your tubes. IPL move it below a frame layer. Resize tube to your liking. Add a drop shadow. H & V = 1. Opacity = 50. Blur = 4. Color is black. Click on the fill layer. Use magic wand to click anywhere outside of fill layer. Selections - Invert. Click on your tube and hit delete. Select None. Repeat for other two frames.

Click on the larger leaf layer.  Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat. New Raster Layer. In Foreground color palette click pattern tab. Select the green floral paper. Set scale to 60. Fill new layer with green floral paper. Selections - Modify - Expand - by 1. New Raster Layer. Fill with black. Select none. IPL, delete original leaf  layer. Move the black layer below the green layer. Apply drop shadow to black layer. H & V = 1. Opacity = 50. Blur = 4. Color is black.  Repeat for the smaller leaf layer, only use the green crinkle paper.

Click on one of the flower layers.

 Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat. New Raster Layer. In Foreground color palette click pattern tab. Select one of the curly papers. Set scale to 60. (you can change this if you prefer) Fill new layer with curly paper. Selections - Modify - Expand - by 1. New Raster Layer. Fill with black. Select none. IPL, delete original flower layer. Move the black layer below the curly layer. Apply drop shadow to black layer. H & V = 1. Opacity = 50. Blur = 4. Color is black. I also right clicked the curly paper flower and duplicated it a couple of times. This helped to fill it out some and not let too much black show behind it.
Repeat for a second set of flowers, using a different curly paper.

For the white flowers, Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat - Modify - Expand by 1. New Raster Layer. Fill with this color eb9623. Selections - Modify - Expand - by 1. New Raster layer. Fill with black. Select None. IPL, move the orange layer below the white and the black below the orange. Give the black the same drop shadow last used. Click on the orange layer. Adjust - Softness - Soften. Softness - Soften More.

For the 2 sets of flowers and the white, click on the top layer and apply the same 3D Inner Bevel that you used for the frames.

Click on the flower center dots. Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat - Modify - Expand by 2. New Raster Layer. Fill with this color, ffff57. Selections - Modify - Expand - by 1. New Raster Layer. Fill with black. Select None. IPL, delete the original dots. Move the black layer below the yellow. Still on the black, go to Adjust - Softness - Soften - Soften More. Click the yellow layer and give it the same inner bevel you gave the frames.


For the layered flower, repeat the previous steps for each layer. Use a different doodle paper for each layer. (See my tag)

Paste, as a new layer, the butterfly. Move it to the upper left of your tag. Add drop shadow last used.

Click on the dash circle give it the same drop shadow last used.

Make your foreground color black and your background null or closed. In your preset shapes, select the elipse tool. Line style is solid. Width is 1. Draw out an oblong circle. The sides go as far as the double rectangle edges. Top and bottom reach the scallop background top and bottom edges.
Now, select your text tool. Move your cursor to the upper center node. When the A on your cursor has the arch beneath it, right click. This should now open your text box.
Font is A&S Happy Jack. Size 22 B. Stroke width = 1. Kerning = 75. Foreground color is 1e3618. Background is the greenery paper. Type out the words FLOWER POWER, in caps.
Go to Edit - Copy - Edit - Undo text. IPL, delete the vector layer. Right click your tag and paste your text as a new layer. Move it the the upper center of your tag. IPL, right click the text and duplicate. Right click and merge down the two together.
Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat - Modify - Expand - by 2. New Raster Layer. Fill with white. Selections - Modify - Expand - by 1. New Raster Layer. Fill with black. Select None.
IPL, move the green layer to the top. White below the green and black on the bottom. Give the black layer a drop shadow. H & V = 2. Opacity = 75. Blur = 6. Color is black. Click the white layer and go to Adjust - Softness - Soften. Click the green layer. Adjust - Add/Remove Noise - Add Noise - set to 20 - Gaussian - Monochrome.
Still on the green. Effects - 3D - Inner Bevel. Settings: Bevel 2. Width = 31. Smoothness = 15. Depth = 1. Ambience and Shine = 0.

Now is a good time to add your copyright info. Also you may want to go ahead and trim the extra white edges from your tag.

Go to your Foreground color pallet. Click the gradient tab and locate a rainbow gradient. My PSP came with two, so I'm hoping yours does as well.  Set the style to Radial. Angle = 0. Repeats = 0.
Click on the Scallop Circle. Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat. New Raster Layer. Fill with rainbow gradient. Select none. IPL, hide the original scallop.

[If you are not going to do the animation, delete the original scallop layer. Add your name and merge all layers visible. Save ]

Right click your tag and copy merged. Paste, as a new animation, in Animation Shop.

Back in psp. Edit - Undo layer visibility - Undo selet none - Undo fill.

Go back to your foreground graident and change the Repeats to 1. Fill with new gradient. Hide original scallop. Right click tag and copy merged.

In animation shop, right the tag there and paste after current frame.

Back in psp. Edit - Undo layer visibility - Undo selet none - Undo fill.

Go back to your foreground graident and change the Repeats to 2.
Fill with new gradient. Hide original scallop. Right click tag and copy merged.

In animation shop, right click the tag there and paste after current frame.

You can do this as many times as you like. I only wanted three frames myself.

Still in animation shop. Edit - Select All. Animation - Frame Properties - set to 15. View - View animation. If you like your tag, save it as a mng file for future use.

For the name, I used the font Mr.Dehaviland size 48 bold. Kerning = 0. Foreground Null and Background color is black. Copy then delete your name. Repaste as a new layer. Place at the lower right of tag. Rotate left by 20 degrees. Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat - Modify - Expand - by 2. New Raster layer. Fill with white. Select None. IPL, move the white layer below the black. Add a drop shadow. H & V = 2. Opacity = 75. Blur = 6. Color is black.
Copy and Paste your name text in animation shop as a new animation.

In animation shop, go to Edit - click propagate paste. Click on your name and type Ctrl a - Ctrl c. Now click on your tag and type Ctrl a - Ctrl e. Place name at the lower right of tag. Save as a gif.
