Music Gets My Mojo Going

This tutorial was written using PSP9, but should work in all versions. A working knowledge of PSP is assumed.

Supplies Needed

Tube of choice. I am using the awesome art of Elias Chatzoudis.

BP_template115, HERE

Mojo Meter, HERE

Animation Shop3

Fonts used are Tangerine and P22 Corinthia

1 or 2 background papers of choice.

Mask of choice

Note:
This tutorial is written for the image and supplies I used. If you are using something different, you may need to adjust some settings.

Let's Begin

Open template in PSP. Duplicate and delete original. Click on the white background. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with white. Effects - Textures - Weave. Settings: Gap size = 3. Width = 12. Opacity = 2. Gap color is black. Check box for fill gaps. Apply a background mask. Layers - Merge - Merge Group.
...

Click on the circle. Now, paste, as a new layer, your tube. I'm using the close up tube, and  resized down to 85%. I mirrored my tube.  Center your tube in the circle, and let the head go over the top of the circle a bit. Add a drop shadow. H & V = 2. Opacity = 75. Blur = 6. Color is black. In palette layers, right click the tube layer and duplicate.
Click on the circle layer. Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat. In palette layers, click on the original tube layer.  Delete.  Click on the tube copy.  Selections - Invert.  Delete. Selections - Select none. Click on the original tube layer again. Use your lasso tool and circle the tube's head from about the nose up. Be sure to include the head set and antenna. Selections - Invert. Delete. Selections - Select None. In palette layers right click the top layer and merge down.
...

These next steps are pretty standard and apply to all the rectangles, square and circle.
Start by clicking on the bottom rectangle. Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with a paper or a color of choice. Selections - Select None. In Palette layers, Delete the original layer and add the same drop shadow last used. Repeat these steps for all the other layers, except for the circle. Do not add a drop shadow just yet.
When you have filled the circle and deleted the original, apply this drop shadow. H & V = 7. Opacity = 100. Blur = 1. Color is white. Now apply the same drop shadow as the other shapes.
...

Open your text box. I used the font tangerine size 30. Set Kerning to 100. Background color is black. Type out the word MUSIC. Click apply. Edit - Copy - Cut. Repaste as a new layer. Position at the top of the left side rectangle. See my tag. Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat - Modify - Expand - by 2. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with white. Selections - Select None. In Palette Layers, Move the black layer above the white and merge down. Add the same drop shadow.
Open text again. Same font, size 14. Type out GETS MY MOJO GOING. Repeat all the other steps as used for Music. Position this at the top of right side rectangle. See my tag.
Merge all layers visible.
...
Open the mojo meter in psp. There should be 3 layers. Copy and paste, as a new layer, the rainbow slide. Position it centered on the left side rectangle. You can keep it rainbow colored, or make it a color from your tag. I used this color bf3c7c. With the change to target brush tool set to 50 opacity and brush the slide twice.

Paste, as a new layer, the arrow. Place it toward the bottom of the slide.

Paste, as a new layer, the top of the meter. Center it over the slide. Add the same drop shadow you've been using.
...

Now is a good time to add your copyright info.

I also resized all layers down to about 85%. That's just me, you may prefer to keep the original size.

If you are not going to animate, add your name text. I used P22 corinthia, size 60. Kerning set to 0. Background is black.
Edit - Copy - Cut. Repaste as a new layer.
Selections - Select All - Float - Defloat - Modify - Expand - by 2. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with white. Selections - Select None. In Palette Layers, Move the black layer above the white and merge down. Add the same drop shadow.

Save as a png or jpeg file.

Animation
Hold off on doing the name text.

Right click your tag - copy merged. Paste as a new image in animation shop.
Back in psp, click on the arrow and move it slightly up. Right click - copy merged. In animation shop, right click the tag there and paste after current frame.
Back in psp, move the arrow up a little more. Again, copy merged and paste in animation shop after current frame. Repeat these steps as often as you like. Even move the arrow down a time or two if you want. I did. In the end I think I had about 14 frames, but you don't have to do that many if you don't want to.

Once you have your arrow positioned at the top of the slide, with your magic wand, click on the slide area around the word full. (see my tag) Fill it with white. Selections - Select None. Right click your tag and copy merged. As before, in animation shop, paste after current frame. Back in psp, Edit - Undo Select None - Undo fill - Undo magic wand. Right click your tag and copy merged. Back in animation shop, paste after current frame. Repeat these steps two or three times.
In animation shop, I ended up with about 19 frames total. Your total may be slightly different depending on how many times your repeated the steps.
Go up to View - Animation. If you are happy with the results save as a mng file for future use.

To add the name text. After making it in psp, paste in animation shop as a new image. On your toolbar select propagate paste. Click on your name and type Ctrl a - Ctrl c. Click on your tag and type Ctrl a - Ctrl e. Place your name below the circle of your tag.
Save as a gif. file.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and found it easy to follow
