Pretty in Pastel

A working knowledge of PSP is assumed.

Supplies Needed

Tube of choice. I am using the art of PinUp Toons, which I purchased from CDO.

NOTE: This tutorial is written for the supplies I used. If you are using something different, you may need to adjust some settings.

IPL = In Palette Layers.


Let's Begin

Open template and supplies in PSP.

Duplicate the template and delete the original. IPL, delete the credit layer.

Click on the white background layer and create a new raster layer. Fill with this color, aff2fa. Apply the mask. Layers - Merge Group. IPL, right click and duplicate the mask layer. Change the blend mode of the duplicate to multiply. Right click the duplicate and merge down with original. Resize the mask layer down to 90%. 

Click on the black circle. Select all - Float - Defloat. New Raster Layer. In the foreground color palette, click the pattern tab and select the green paper from my supplies. Fill the new raster layer. Select none. IPL, right click and duplicate. Click the duplicate and change it's blend mode to multiply. Right click and merge it down to original. Add a drop shadow. Delete template layer.

Click on the blue square. Select All - Float - Defloat. New Raster Layer. Fill this layer with the same green paper. Select none. Add a drop shadow. Delete template layer.

Click on the background shape. Select all - Float - Defloat. New Raster Layer. Fill with the paper 1 from my supplies. Select None. Add a drop shadow. Delete template layer.

Click on the white fill layers. Select all - Float - Defloat. New Raster Layer. Fill with the paper 1 from my supplies. Select None. Delete template layer.

Make a gradient color. Foreground color is cdf8fc, and background color is 8dd2de. In the foreground color palette click on the gradient tab. Style = Linear. Angle = 45. Repeats = 4.

Click on the blue frame. Select all - Float - Defloat. New Raster Layer. Fill with the gradient color. Select none. IPL, duplicate the frame layer. Change the duplicate's blend mode to multiply. Right click the duplicate and duplicate. Right click the top frame layer and merge down to the second layer. Now right click it and merge down to the first frame layer. Delete the template layer.

Change the gradient's style to Sunburst. Set repeats to 2.

Click on the curly shape. Select All - Float - Defloat - Modify - Contract - by 2. New Raster Layer. Fill with the same gradient color. Select none. Delete template layer. Duplicate the curly shape. Change the duplicate's blend mode to multiply. IPL, right click and merge down with original. Go to Effects - 3D effects - Inner Bevel. Settings: Bevel #4. Width = 4. Smoothness = 15. Depth = 2. Ambience and shininess = 0. Move the black bg in just a pinch and give it a drop shadow.

Click on the blue square fills. Select all - Float - Defloat. New Raster Layer. Fill with the gradient color you just used. Select none. Delete template layer. Go to Effects - Textures - Weave. Settings: Gap size = 1. Width = 4. Opacity = 1. Colors are white. Check fill gaps.

Click on the blue frame layer. Use your magic wand to click inside the lower left square. Selections - Modify - Expand - by 4. Paste, as a new layer, the flower. Resize to your liking and place it slightly off center to the upper left of the square. (see my tag) Selections - invert. Delete. Select None. Give it a light drop shadow. 

Paste, as a new layer, the tube close up. Rotate to the right by 100. Mirror. IPL, move the tube layer below the frame layer. Place the tube so the eyes are in the upper right frame. Increase the size up to 120. Use your magic wand to click inside the frame's upper square. Selections - Modify - Expand - by 4. Selections - Invert. Delete.
IPL, duplicate the tube twice. You want 3 layers total. Click on the bottom layer. Set blend mode to Luminance legacy. Click on the middle tube layer. Set the blend mode to Luminance. Change opacity to 70. Click on the top tube layer. Change it's blend mode to multiply and put it's opacity to 70.

Paste, as a new layer, your whole tube. Rotate right by 90 degrees. Increase size up to 120. Move below the frame layer. Position so it looks like her back is resting at the left side of the frame. (see my tag) Add a drop shadow. Use your rectangle shape tool to trace around the square of the frame. Selections - Invert. Delete. Select None.
Add copyright a name and merge all layers. Save.
